A few days ago I wrote about the structure of the church. Undoubtedly I included other related topics. My reason was only to provoke a dialogue and to be able to talk with the interested parties.
Upon receiving a note on the subject, from a friend and colleague, wise and knowledgeable about the matter, I thought I would try to make a conclusion, but not a model. Because the only model is our Lord Jesus. There is no other, He and only He presents us the ideal.
The apostles, especially the apostle Paul, present us concepts and bases, where we see "church success", but not a model. Because only the pastor of the church, can determine what structure and system can develop in the community, culture and country where it is located.
Thinking of pastors that God has used and who have served with dignity and have left healthy works when retiring or resigning. I think of the men of God who have recognized that the Church belongs to Christ and not to them. Servants who have relied on the doctrine they have taught and the foundations they have left are totally Biblical. When they leave the pastorate, the Church they cared for goes on doing the same or better work than when he was the pastor. When a pastor resigns or retires, he must leave the congregation, meet and serve elsewhere. If he taught the Bible, Jesus Christ is the Foundation, the Architect, the Builder, the Inspector and Protector, not me. In Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to Him, and dine with Him and He with Me" This is Christ's invitation to the Churches of Asia Minor. And it is to each of the 21st century. Brother, listen to the voice of the Lord! The Church is of Christ and He can take care of it, better than us.
The model pastor is the one who believes that the words of Christ are true and valid in the present. "… And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Christ is the owner, founder and protector of His own body. We do not have to defend the truth. The truth does not need defense. Jude 3 says: "Beloved, because of the great solicitude I had to write to you about our common salvation, it has been necessary for me to exhort you to CONTENTS ardently for the faith that has once been given to the saints." Someone has said, that the truth It's like the lion in the jungle, let it go.
The model pastor is the one who takes his lead in the pastorate, Pastor of the shepherds. There is no pattern in the apostles differently. Paul says: "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11: 1) He is the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd and the Pastor of the shepherds. According to the gifts, abilities, education, culture and calling, each one builds on the foundation and doctrine of the diferente twelve. They say: "To whom shall we go, you have words of eternal life"? (John 6:68) When the Lord went to Nazareth and entered the synagogue, "… the eyes of all were fixed on Him" (Luke 4:19)
If a pastor really wants to be successful in his task, know Christ better. Teach the Biblical doctrine of Christ, not the philosophers or teachers of the seminary. The Bible does not need levers, it is clear in its text. What we have to do is to know, all the text, not to take a text out of context and use it as a pretext, to give our opinion, which will always be incorrect. Sound doctrine comes from our understanding of the great doctrines of the Word of God. And here there is no place for human speculations. When Paul says: "I know who he has believed" he is not hesitating. When Job says: "I know that my Redeemer lives" there is certainty in him.
Sound doctrine will drip like rain, distill like dew, come like drizzle on the grass and like drops on the grass. This Moses taught it, the word of Jehovah. That is why Paul exhorts Titus: "But you speak what is in accordance with sound doctrine" (2: 1) And the foundation of biblical doctrine is what the apostles teach (Ephesians 2:20)
We could quote the great doctrines of the Bible, but if you only go to the Baptist Message and Faith you can see the basics of our Christian faith. If you want a copy, I will gladly provide them by email.
The pastoral model? That is you brother, called by God to be the pastor of His Church. In reviewing my ministry and where I have had the privilege to serve, I have noticed that, if any success I have had, it is because I have always believed that God called me and that He is responsible for my family and for everything that He wants me to do. I have been thrown, decisive and sometimes atrocious. But God has taken me out of a thousand predicaments and difficult situations. It has not been difficult for me to stop working secularly, nor to support a wife and seven children and at the same time to pastor the Church.
My wife has never worked a day outside of her house. We have never lacked, although sometimes life seemed tyrannical and contrary. But God, who is great in mercy, always arrives on time. Do not try to imitate others. The only model is our Lord Jesus Christ. Receive it, obey it, know it, trust it, serve it and let your eyes always be fixed on Him. Victory is certain. If you have felt and heard His call, surrender totally to Him. If not, simply be an obedient child and support the pastor who demonstrates believing and teaching the Bible.
"Our eyes were on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him suffered the cross, despising the reproach, and sat down at the right hand of God's throne" (Hebrews 12: 2). Glory be to our blessed Lord and Savior!
