"Everyone who commits sin also breaks the law; for sin is the transgression of the law "(1 John 3: 4).
One of the great problems of sin is its antagonism to the law of God. The law is a manifestation of his will. If we say to love God, to have communion with him and to have been born of him, then we are committed to delight in the fulfillment of his will, because we want to please him. Sin is a contradiction of that intention. If we ask the children of God, do you want to see God sad? We can assure that your answer will be negative. Why do we sin, then? We do this when we allow other desires at that moment to usurp the holy ambition to be pleasing to Him (2 Corinthians 5: 9).
Sometimes we tend to see God's law in itself and lose sight of the Giver of that law. The law is important because of who established it. God is a universal legislator, in other words, his law embraces everyone. No one escapes the lordship and authority of the Lord. You may not have any interest in the laws of Botswana because you do not live there. What we can not do is give ourselves the luxury of ignoring the laws of the country in which we live, because we are under its authority. In that sense, the divine authority understands the whole world. Every infraction of the divine law is a challenge to the authority of God. His commandments are an expression of his character. To sin is to love the opposite.
In the previous encontrarse John tells us how the expectation and anticipation of the second coming of Christ is a strong stimulus to purity. "Everyone who has this hope in him, purifies himself, just as he is pure" (3: 3). In v.4 he presents the contrast. While one is purified, the other becomes contaminated. In v.3 he describes the correct attitude of all who abide in Christ-the way of holiness. In v. 4 he describes the wrong way-the way of sin.
The true believer keeps the commandments (1 John 2: 3-4). How is your obedience? Remember, any controversy with the law of God is a controversy with the God of the law.Author: Salvador Gomez Dickson
